One Saturday Morning
Veteran’s Day Fundraiser at Chick-Fil-A at Arrowhead Mall, what an incredible experience!! For almost two weeks they had a special table out just for Honor Flight which included a donation box, posters, and pamphlets about Honor Flight Arizona. Nancy, franchisee of this location, really went all out and decorated the entire restaurant with pictures and stories of Veterans all throughout the place as well as hanging a large banner proclaiming “Home of the Free, Because of the Brave”. It truly was an experience to tour around this restaurant. The franchise operators, Leo & Nancy, were also donating a portion of all proceeds they took in that day to Honor Flight Arizona. November 8th, the Saturday before Veteran’s Day several Veterans and spouses were able to meet down there for a late breakfast (and later some of the best shakes EVER). They had a table in a place of honor, front and center, where all those who came into the store, young and old, could stop casino spiele by and shake their hand and spend some time with some of our “Greatest Generation.” When all was tallied and a check was presented from the proceeds, along with those contributions received in the donation box by their wonderfully generous customers, Arrowhead Chick-Fil-A had raised enough to send 6 WWII Veterans on an Honor Flight trip to see their memorial. Being one I greatly liked my trip to Washington. My Shipmate that traveled with me has now passed on.
