Enlisted in U.S. Navy 1942. Boarded U.S.S. Texas 1943. Escorted convoys across North Atlantic. Participated in D-Day invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach. After that, the invasion of Southern France. Next, off to the Pacific for the invasions of Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the Philippines liberation.

I enlisted for pilot training in the United States Naval Reserve in June, 1942. I was called to active duty in January 1943. I took primary training at Ottumwa, Iowa, advanced training at Corpus Cristi, Texas, Operational Training at Melbourne, Florida in F6F Grumman Fighter planes.
